In the Humble Opinion of LittleBill, Socialist, Atheist, and Humanist
Presidential Qualifications

The Republicans are stepping up in droves to announce that they are forming exploratory committees to determine if they should run for president.

The Democrats, so far, have only Hillary Clinton, Barak Obama, and a couple of relative unknowns who are making moves in that direction. Hillary is a very divisive candidate, and both she and Obama have chosen to make their first conciliatory moves toward the religious right. (In that regard, Republican John McCain has gone so far as to be filmed courting Jerry Falwell and his followers.)

It is time for those of us who rely on reason more than on faith to make ourselves known and demand our right to be heard. There are millions of us out here, and our group consists of people of faith who also rely on reason, as well as those of us who may not subscribe to belief in a religious faith, but very strongly subscribe to the creation in which we find ourselves and the reverence it deserves.

There is no one I can think of who is better fitted than Al Gore. He has more qualifications than anyone else, having served in the Senate and as Vice President, as well as undoubtedly having won the presidency in 2000. But, of all his qualifications, I can think of no one who can contend with him on the most important issue of our time, the environment. Add to that, he is a man of faith as well as a man of reason.

If you are a person of faith, you must believe that the earth was created by a God in some form. If you are a person of reason but not a person of faith, you still must be unsure of creation, but in awe of this wondrous globe which we are riding through the heavens. What Man has been doing to it is obscene. We need a leader who can think beyond mere politics and into the future which none of us will see, but for which we will all be responsible.

No one - well hardly anyone - has admired Al Gore gifts and contributions to America longer or stronger than I have. To my way of thinking, Gore has made only two mistakes in his political life: (A) He chose the wrong running mate in 2000 and (B) he chose the wrong handlers in 2000.

But he was right on going to war to repel Saddam from Kuwait. (One of the few Democrats in the Senate to do so.) And he was right to oppose Bush's invasion of Iraq in 2003 (and to this date).

His warnings about climate change & global warming? Huge. HUGE!

He could pull a 'Richard Nixon', come back eight years after being defeated, and win in 2008! What could be a sweeter than thus serving his revenge cold? "President Gore"? Those two words constitute Grover Norquist's worst nightmare.

Messenger, I have always been strong on Big Al. But I don't see him running? What would motivate him? As things are now, especially in comparison to Bush, he stands to go down in history as the greatest president ever elected. As president-elect he made no mistakes. He has a perfect record. That the American people, in their somnambulance, didn't realize what statesmanship qualities he had to offer is not to be blamed on Big Al. Not with our once-great country swirling down the toilet under the retainer of Bush, Cheney, Rove & Rumsfeld, Inc.

Hell-on-wheels, Lil'Bill! I just see Al and Tipper holding hands and strolling into retirement and history, saying, "See? You could have had us!"

Instead we got the swift boat(s) to hell and gone.

Al Gore represents the greatest road not taken by America. What more can he gain by offering himself up as a presidential candidate? If he does nothing more, he goes out a winner and America comes out a loser.

I have done many posts in the past calling for Gore to run. He has spent a life time preparing for the role as President and as he is so enlightened as to the fragility of the planet, something I have harped on for years, I think he is uniquely outfitted to ba at the helm in 08 and try to clean up Bush's many messes.
However, with that said I have still not heard him stand up. If he did he would be elected. Shy of that I would have to say Obama will get the nomination though he is a bit green. Obama, Ford, wow, think of that.
Anyway. Obama would be good for us, the country, and the world. I believe Al Gore and what he thinks would have a big influence on Obama.

I hope all of those who realize who we could have had, and who we got will get together and persuade Gore to please come forward. He seems to me to be the one-in-a-million who is far more interested in the ultimate greatest cause and what he can do to help achieve it, rather than what it will do for him or his legacy.

I have thought and said the same thing many times. I tried to find out how we could get our feelings as to wanting him to run to him?
I haven't done anything about it yet but I will start looking into it now. I do remember that he said he would announce his intentions after his book came out.
I think it has come out now but I am not sure as I have heard nothing yet. I will stay in touch!
