Don Imus's Second Calling

Don Imus’s Second Calling

Speaking as one of many who do not follow Don Imus, I have heard and seen enough in the past few days to realize that he has a split personality.

Taking him off the air for a two week suspension is fine, but I think it should go farther than that. He and the stations who have, unfortunately, made money from his rants by appealing to people who think and speak as he has, should now draw upon his other personality to come forth.

Imus should draw permanently on the personality that has funded so many meaningful charities and institutions through his own personal efforts. If he loses his old audience, so much the better. If, on the other hand, he is able to turn minds and hearts 180 degrees, he should be able to redeem himself by redeeming others. And he should not be forced to take the punishment on his own. The networks should share blame for sponsoring programs which enjoy success and make money at the expense of others. If they all make less in the future, so be it.

What's the friggin' beaf??? The man's 70! Let him have his say! Too much political correctness around here if you ask me.

I have never heard about this fellow, Imus, before, so, I should keep my uniformed yap shut. However, the political correctness might have gone a bit too far in you fair land? Soon person will need some sort of a corrective speech filter surgically installed in a larynx to stave off all the inpure and univerasally unacceptable words. Next step; no more dirty thoughts?

Pekka, Imus and Limbaugh are two of a kind, in my book. I never listen to either one. Neither should be suppressed (by act of Congress and way). But they both should be shunned. By viewers and then, ultimately by advertisers.

The people who listen to Imus are basically the same people who don't have time for nuances. They like the broad brush. Their appetite for insults and depravity is insatiable.

Thanks, Vigil, for the info! Limbaugh character is the one I have some idea about and if poor Imus is anywhere near his caliber, well, all the bad luck in the world to you, Imus! I still prefere, that the stupid people have a chance to make fools out of themselves as publicly as possible and, if they are bad enough, even hang themselves. We should be providing them all the rope they need to do the favour. Of course, the higher their platform is, the more spectacular their fall is.

I can't believe intelligent people are swarming over the still warm cadaver of Don Imus? Two posts on the same topic? Such trivia! Why not debate Anna Nicole Smith? Or pet food? Give me a call when you stop watching this crap on TV. (I won't be back until you do!)

Take a hike, Messenger. This is worth talking about. Listening to Randi Rhodes this afternoon. She makes the connection: Don Imus is just the fall guy for what ails (hate) talk radio in the United States. All across this country, conservative hate-mongering radio rages, trying to split and divide America - to drive us apart. In this context, Randi says, Imus is just the court jester. He is to be sacrificed so that Coulters and Limbaughs can continue to spread their toxic spill. They ruin America from within while Bush ruins her from without. Imus is the Scooter Libby of talk radio, protecting all of the Cheney's who are licensed by the FCC. Worth talking about.

Good comment, Vigilante. The sad thing is that people like Limbaugh, Coulter, and Imus have such a large audience.
