I, too, think that rule about not "speaking ill of the dead" shouldn't be obeyed 100 percent of the time. Safire aided Nixon, Agnew and Kissinger in crimes against humanity. For that he deserves no admiration in life or death.

I'd mentioned in another blog the comment by Hunter Thompson on Nixon's death.Thompson had said instead of a burial they should have just tossed his corpse into the Long Beach storm drains and let him wash out to sea with the rest of the sewage.
