The Esperanza Fire fueled by winds burns near homes in Banning, Calif., 140 kilometres east of Los Angeles on Friday.
This fire was set by an arsonist. A $500,000 reward has been posted for information leading to his arrest.
Whoever it turns out to have been will be charged with murder. Work on battling the blaze has killed four firefighters, and left a fifth firefighter hospitalized in critical condition with burns over 90 percent of his body.
No punishment will be enough for the person or persons who started that fire, but I have in mind an old Greek or Roman punishment. Each leg and each arm were chained to the backs of four horses facing away from the criminal, and then, at a signal, four men whipped the horses.

I understand they will have the fire out soon and they are getting closer to whoever set it. don't you wish sometimes that you could retribute exactly as some of these mindless idiots of today deserve?
I heard the wife of the injured firefighter pleading to whoever set it to turn themselves in and not let their guilt eat them up.
Sadly with the perversion of today many do some pretty screwed up things like hacking up people and don't even think about it.
This is not the world of Sandra Dee!
Somehow I can't bring myself to agree the tone and intent of this post of yours. So, in your mind, there is not enough of horrible things that we, as a society, could impose on that pyromaniac (?) sicko? Fortunately, the laws, that punish people of various crimes they have commited, are usually passed by clear headed and sober legal minds that are not effected by this or that particular and sensational crime. To do it the way you would like it to be done in this particular case, would take us back to the "good old days" of the frontier justice and we all would be losers.
Thanks for giving me a chance to clarify my comment, Pekka!
I took Lil' Bill's suggestion fo 'drawing & quartering' as not being a serious proposal, as 'tongue in cheek' but still suggestive of how serious we Southern Californians look upon the crime of arson: it can rob people - people whom it does not kill of their property and life savings. One deliberately placed match is all it takes. It's as immoral as starting an unneccessary war.
Thanks for clarifying mine also, Vigilante.
